Abstract

The advancement of digital technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), has significantly transformed library service systems. While AI enhances efficiency and service quality, it also introduces challenges that may threaten the sustainability of libraries. This study aims to analyze the role of AI as a potential threat to the future of libraries, focusing on librarian roles, data ethics and privacy, and user behavior. This research employs a literature review approach by analyzing 25 scholarly articles obtained from the Scopus database using Scopus AI, published between 2023 and 2026. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns and trends in the literature. The findings reveal that AI improves user experience and operational efficiency, but also raises concerns regarding algorithmic bias, data privacy, and the transformation of librarian roles. Furthermore, increased reliance on AI may influence users’ information behavior and critical literacy. In conclusion, AI presents a dual impact that requires careful management to ensure alignment with core library values.
